Why the United States is Destroying Its Education System

Copied and pasted, whole-cloth, from an article published earlier in the year. Take time to read and think about the future implications of what we are doing to our educational system in this country. If we do not act to change this course we are on, ever more testing, ever more standardizing....we, and our children, are lost.

  1. First and foremost, this is an excellent article. Thank you for posting it. I have experienced the complete failure of the "No Child Left Behind" program. My four year is eager to start school, yet his birthday is in December. This means that the public school system will not allow him to begin preschool unless he qualifies for the program. I took him to the testing center and completed all the necessary paperwork. After his scores and my credentials were reviewed, I was essentially told that my child was too white, too smart, and lacked the required disabilities to qualify him for the program. Furthermore, I was told I had too much education, had the potential to make too much money, and was not on any sort of government assistance...and, therefore, my child certainly was not qualified for PRESCHOOL!!! So, my child is being educationally deprived and "left behind" because his parents decided NOT to abuse the system and actually be productive, functional, self-reliant individuals. Go figure.

    1. Gifted kids are certainly left behind in this educational climate.
